PREVIEWS BEGIN JULY 20, 2006

OPENING NIGHT SET FOR JULY 25th

AT THE CULTURE PROJECT (45 BLEECKER)

New York, NY – Allan Buchman (Artistic Director) announces that the Culture Project will present the New York premiere of the international hit AMAJUBA: Like Doves We Rise, a searing new drama of monologue, mime, song and dance from South Africa. Created and directed by the internationally acclaimed Yael Farber, AMAJUBA: Like Doves We Rise paints a very personal portrait of survival in the South African townships, with narratives based on the real lives of the five performers who make up the cast: Tshallo Chokwe, Roelf Matlala, Bongeka Mpongwana, Phillip ‘Tipo’ Tindisa and Jabulile Tshabalala. The production, a major force in post-apartheid South African theater, was a runaway sensation of the 2004 Edinburgh Festival and in London’s West End, where critics called the show “Powerful” (The Guardian), “Remarkable” (The Independent) and “Irresistible” (London Times). It also played in Ireland and Australia where the Sydney Morning Herald raved, “The most poetic, stirring and memorable theater…a passionate celebration.” AMAJUBA: Like Doves We Rise begins preview performances on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 8:00PM. Opening Night is Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 7:00PM at The Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette). This limited engagement will play through August 27, 2006.

“Mary Stuart”.

Produced in association with Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, this work is also part of LMCC’s Sitelines and an official production of the River to River Festival.

Filled with court-intrigue, this cloak-and-dagger production of

“Mary Stuart” is staged in historic Castle Clinton and the majestic surrounding gardens changing location from scene to scene

every 10-15 minutes.

Set in 16th century England, Mary Queen of Scots awaits her execution by Elizabeth I. Both decendents of the famous Henry VIII, these cousins never exchanged more than letters in real life, but Schiller helps us imagine a confrontation between two of Europe’s mightiest female monarchs while overlooking the Statue of Liberty!

Cast includes: William Connell, Sean Hagerty, Patricia Marie Kelley, James Knight, Michael Marion, Bryant Mason, Don Mayo, Mary Jo McConnell, Alex Pappas, Tyler Pierce & Kim Stauffer.

There are no lines to wait on, no reservations to make,
and no tickets to buy! Just show up in front of Castle Clinton!
