We’re kind of sad to see The Wedding Singer close (we’ve mentioned it before, y’know). While not exactly a great piece of theatrical art, it was fun and mindless entertainment with numerous 80’s references. Does this mean “Teen Wolf: The Musical” is now DOA? Gosh, we hope not. (We kid. At least, we’re hoping we kid.)

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The Wedding Singer, the musical based on the 1998 New Line Cinema film, will close on Sunday, December 31, at Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre, 302 West 45 Street. The Wedding Singer will have played 30 previews and 284 performances.

The Wedding Singer had its world premiere at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre in February 2006 where the show broke house box office records. It opened on Broadway April 27, 2006, and subsequently received five 2006 Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical.

The Wedding Singer has recently sold foreign license agreements for productions in both Japan and Korea, and has closed a deal with Music Theatre International for stock and amateur rights.

Producers are also in discussion about a national tour beginning in 2007.

The Wedding Singer, which is directed by John Rando, has music by Matthew Sklar, book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Rob Ashford is the choreographer.

The Wedding Singer is produced by Margo Lion, New Line Cinema, The Araca Group, Roy Furman, Doug Meyer/James D. The holiday performance schedule of The Wedding Singer includes no performance on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, and a special added matinee on Friday, November 24 at 2pm.
