Free event from the Aquila Theater Company

The Aquila Theatre Company and New York University’s Center for Ancient
Studies invite you to a special free event — ENACTING MEDEA: Theatre,
Opera, and Film – “An exploration of the character of MEDEA across the
spectrum of performing art forms.”

Thursday, June 1, 2006, 5pm-8pm at Hemmerdinger Hall, 100 Washington
Square East New York, NY 10003

Speakers:
Daniel Mendelsohn, Professor of Humanities, Bard College; “Medea in
431BC: Passions & Politics”
Michael Beckerman, Professor of Music, NYU; “Medea in Opera: Cherubini &
Jiri Benda”
Herbert Golder, Professor of Classics, Boston College; “Medea on Film:
Passolini, Jules Dassin & Lars von Trier”

Also featuring a special performance of selected scenes from Euripides
and Cherubini by THE AQUILA THEATRE COMPANY

Moderated by Peter Meineck, Clinical Assistant Professor of Classics,
NYU and Aquila’s Artistic Director .

There will be a wine reception.

ENACTING MEDEA complements a special performance of Cherubini’s opera
MEDEE at Carnegie Hall on Saturday June 3, 2006 at 7:30pm.

Peter Tiboris conducts the Manhattan Philharmonic. Irini Tsirakidou
sings the role of Medee. Featuring members of THE AQUILA THEATRE COMPANY
in speaking roles.
