We’re tempted to say something like “their upcoming season sounds really nifty-keen!” but we won’t. Oh wait, we just did…

Next season, Keen Company moves uptown and Off Broadway!
First show of their 2006/07 Season is the NYC premiere of Theophilus
North
, by Matthew Burnett, based on the novel by Thornton Wilder.

New York, New York June 21, 2006—The Drama Desk Award-winning Keen
Company (Carl Forsman, Artistic Director) is thrilled to announce
that beginning with their 2006/07 Season, they will be moving Off
Broadway (on an Actor’s Equity “A Contract”) and in residence at
Theater Row. Keen Company shows will perform at the Clurman Theater
(410 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues).

“We are overwhelmingly happy to move to our new home in the heart of
the Theater District,” said Carl Forsman, Keen Company’s Artistic
Director. “With our move uptown, and our new contract with Actor’s
Equity, we are officially an Off Broadway company, joining theaters
like the Atlantic, the New Group and Playwright’s Horizons as a
vibrant part of New York’s cultural landscape. While we have enjoyed
tremendous success in the Off Off Broadway community, we are excited
to continue to grow and expand our audiences. This is an exciting
moment as we make our next step forward.”

Keen Company kicks off their 2006/07 season with the New York
premiere of Theophilus North by Matthew Burnett, based on the novel
by Thornton Wilder and directed by Carl Forsman. The production
begins previews on Tuesday, September 5 for a limited engagement
through Saturday, October 14. Opening night is TBD.

In the Spring of 1926, 30 year old Theophilus North decides to quit
his teaching post in New Jersey and embark on a quest for fun,
excitement and his place in the world–until his used car breaks down
in Newport, Rhode Island, stranding him in this city of renowned
wealth. Insinuating himself into the lives and troubles of Newport’s
residents, both idle rich and working class, Theophilus hopes to make
a difference in their lives. Will they return the favor?

Keen Company’s production marks the NY premiere of this touching,
funny and insightful charmer, adapted from the final novel by the
American literary icon Thornton Wilder.

The second show of their 2006/07 Season is still under
consideration. This play will begin previews on Tuesday, March 6 for
a limited engagement through Saturday, April 14. Opening Night TBD.

Works under consideration include TS Elliot’s masterful family drama
The Confidential Clerk and Maxwell Anderson’s clever Depression-era
marriage play Saturday’s Children.

Single tickets to each show are $40 and go on sale August 1st. To

and enlightening audiences with plays that build upon our theatrical
heritage. Their 15 productions have garnered five Drama Desk
nomination, an Obie Award, and two Off Broadway transfers.

Keen Company’s critically acclaimed production of In the Matter of J.
Robert Oppenheimer is running through Sunday, June 25 at the Connelly
Theater in the East Village.
