Alan Cumming Taking Over Show Business?
Alan Cumming weighs in on his recently closed production of The Threepenny Opera:
“It’s sort of a weird thing that you’d normally find off- off-Broadway,” he says. “Broadway is now a code word for a certain type of experience — and we’re not giving that experience.”
Hey, anytime you can get people to pay $100 for an off-off Broadway show, we say good for you! (We didn’t see the show, so we can’t vouch for the shows’ level of off-off-ness.)
Also: make sure to note the name of Alan’s body lotion. Hint: it wouldn’t make it past your spam filter.

CNN delves deep into an important story
This has nothing to do with off-off Broadway, except that the title of the story sounds like it could be the title of a Fringe show.

Steven Seagal at B.B. King’s
This isn’t theatrical in nature, but it’s too weird to not post.
STEVEN SEAGAL HAS A BLUES BAND.
Not since Bruce Willis’ exciting forays into musical performance has there been such anticipation.

The guy won a Tony, but apparently he is a veteran of downtown theater. Anyone who’s appeared in a show at Expanded Arts deserves props for (a) surviving the experience and (b) getting out and making some money. Nothing personal, EA, it’s just… well, things could get a little scary down there sometimes. Good for John, though. This isn’t quite as cool as Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis winning the Tony for Urinetown, but it’s still good. Nice work, John.

Roundabout Does off-off (kinda)
PIG FARM is a play by Greg Kotis of URINETOWN fame. It’s at the Roundabout, which is not an off-off Broadway theatre in any sense of the word. We were thrilled for Greg that he made it to Broadway with URINETOWN (and won multiple Tonys, no less), and we’re even more thrilled that the theatre establishment didn’t throw him back after they saw what else he had.
