Spoke The Hub ‘Class Sharings’

Spoke The Hub wants you to come check out their classes. Read on:
Dear Spoke the Hub Families & Students,

Just want to make sure that everyone knows about our annual “Class Sharings”
on Friday June 16 at 7:30 pm at the Gowanus Arts Building, 3rd Floor, Buzzer
#6, 295 Douglass Street, between 3rd & 4th Avenues? Please consult your
teacher about what day and time your child’s additional spacing/tech
rehearsal is, what time to arrive on Friday, and what to wear to this
informal family performance event. Also be reminded that if you or your
child have missed Spring classes to make-up, this must be accomplished
before the end of June — no exceptions or extensions.

Our summer classes begin July 5th so if you plan to register for this 6 week
summer session, please do so before June 16 and receive a $10 off discount!

Also, if you have not yet put in your two cents worth, let us know if you
would prefer we start our Fall classes right after Labor Day this year
(rather then starting them the first week of October which is what we have
traditionally done) and if you have any requests for new or different class
offerings. Our proposed Fall schedule should be available at the Class
Sharings, so please feel free to consult Spoke the Hub teachers and staff at
that time on what Fall classes might best serve your family’s needs.

THE DENTIST – Last Chance

Last Chance to See THE DENTIST at the Merry Month of May Festival.

After a rollicking month, the Merry Month of May Festival winds up its festivities May 27th.  Presented by MoonBeam.Net Productions, the Festival is currently holding court at Manhattan Repertory Theatre, located at 303 West 42nd Street.

The highlight of the Festival is Jason Shilling Kendall’s THE DENTIST or BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH.  Set in both “long ago” and “right now,” the work combines farce, the art of clowning, extreme physicality and the Commedia dell’Arte style – all to ensure that true love conquers all, those who are misguided learn the error of their ways (with a little help) and everyone (or most everyone) lives happily ever after.

When She Was King

When She Was KingWhen She Was King is a performance piece by International “Gender Illusionist ” Diyaa (a.k.a. Mildred Gerestant) formerly known as “DRED.” When She Was King is a funny, funky, superfly, thought and spirit provoking performance on life, and conditioning, gender and diversity. An interesting twist of Madea, Martin, and The Klumps — A hilarious and delightful experience unlike any you have seen before. Diyaa calls attention to the oppression that results from society’s rigid ideas of gender (not to mention race and religion) as she morphs from Shaft into P. Diddy quicker than you can ask, “Who’s that, uh, girl?” You won’t believe your eyes. Directed By Emmitt Thrower.Mark Muro, Anchorage Daily News, says “Gerestant is a trickster. Watching her channel her characters produces a strange sensation. As her costumes change, we witness transformation by degree, an experience that not only challenges our assumptions but also teases us with an uneasy feeling of dislocation. Just as we settle into one character, Gerestant pulls a quick change and sends us looking for another label. A gifted dancer and superb physical comedian, Gerestant repeatedly brought down the house with her outrageous antics.”

Roundabout Does off-off (kinda)

Pig FarmPIG FARM is a play by Greg Kotis of URINETOWN fame. It’s at the Roundabout, which is not an off-off Broadway theatre in any sense of the word. We were thrilled for Greg that he made it to Broadway with URINETOWN (and won multiple Tonys, no less), and we’re even more thrilled that the theatre establishment didn’t throw him back after they saw what else he had.

Hint: you can get discount tickets for PIG FARM here.

$ELLOUT at The Brick

The following is an email that was sent out by The Brick Theater. We like them. Help ’em out.

Friends of The Brick:

What would a $ELLOUT FESTIVAL be without advertising? Seriously, popular entertainment only exists to be a creamy filling between commercials – why should we be any different?

To this end, the Program and Festival Guide for this year’s $ELLOUT FESTIVAL are currently being constructed, and The Brick is offering low-price advertising space in both publications. Do you have a small business or service you’d like to have publicized? Anything from website design to floral arrangements to massage services to multinational corporate hegemony? If so, take out an ad at our incredibly reasonable prices! All ads will run for a full month and be seen by an estimated 5,000 attendees.

Both the Program and the Festival Guide will have a page size of 8 ½” x 5 ½”, and ad pricing is as follows:

Quarter page (business card): 50.00
Half Page: 80.00
Full page: 120.00

The absolute deadline for artwork is Friday, May 26, 2006 – it’s coming fast!

Artwork can be in jpg, gif, psd, or tiff format. For complete details and to place an order for an ad, please contact ads@bricktheater.com.

Help Williamsburg theatre sell out by throwing us some scratch!

And please forward on this e-mail to anyone who would be interested – particularly billionaires, industrialists and tycoons.

Thank you,
The Brick
