Makeout Session
The web site for ‘Makeout Session’ is cute. Blistex navigation elements, very nice. Not nearly enough photos of folks makin’ out, however, especially for a play that claims to be An exploration of love, and an exploration of the overwhelming question “are they going to kiss?” Well, maybe they’ll post more soon.

Cuz the name ‘Tennessee Williams’ sounds kinda clowny anyway

‘Bouffon Glass Menajoree’, a parody of guess which play, has been extended at The Brick Theater. NYTheatre.com says it’s ‘sacrilege’, but in a good way (really). Anytime someone takes potshots at sacred literary cows, we’re all for that. (Real cows on the other hand – uh-uh. Don’t take potshots at those.)
Fridays @ 10:30pm starting October 13. Read on, you foolish mortal, you:

EXTENDED!! FROM … The NY Clown Theatre Festival

The Brick Theater, Inc. presents

a Ten Directions production

Bouffon Glass Menajoree

a parody of a beloved American Classic

” Yes, it is total theatrical sacrilege, and, I am forced to admit, delicious.

…sublimely funny and unexpectedly witty.”

-nytheatre.com

Gentlemen callers beware: The Wingfields plume their nest with broken glass, twisted morals, and perverted minds. Each night a new audience member will get to play the role of Jim, the gentlemen caller. Tom, Amanda and Laura claim no responsibility for your hurt feelings or offended sentiments. Tennessee Williams is spinning in his grave. Why would anyone do this to an American Masterpiece?

OK, so the song is really Feel Like Makin’ Love, but this is close enough. Previews start October 6th, opening is October 20th. The play is “MAKEOUT SESSION”. We are sounding too much like the press release. It is below. It quotes Nietzsche. And The Beatles. Read it and buy tickets (well, that’s the idea anyway). Check out the Calendar for the dates.

Valentyne calling Orson, come in Orson

Filed under: For Kids,Listings,Outdoors,Press Releases — offoffbway @ 4:58 pm

This show has nothing to do with Mork & Mindy, although it does make us wonder if maybe, just maybe, the creators of that first irritating Robin Williams character were really well-read. But we kind of doubt it. Last weekend for this one, and it’s in the outdoor garden at St. John the Divine, which is a damn nice place to spend a little time. Only $10, $5 for students and seniors. Plus there are puppets. Why haven’t you bought tickets yet? September 15, 16, 17.

Murray Hill on the Lower East Side

Drag Kings don’t get the kind of attention that Drag Queens get, so you’ve got to admire Murray Hill. S/he has been knocking around for a loooong time, with sold out live shows that played all over New York and even (in 2005) in London. Hell, s/he even ran for mayor of NYC in 1997 (and lost, but got 341 write-in votes – and probably without spending Bloomberg-type money).
The latest show is at Mo Pitkin’s, which is where the last show was. Drink specials, Rheingold beer, cheeseburgers – what could be bad? Starts September 22, full info below.

But do they breathe fire if they sing off-key?

This is one of those titles that doesn’t really roll off the tongue. Then again, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a surprise hit, so maybe this one will do the same. At Here, the venue where The Vagina Monologues started, about a hundred years ago.

Barely Breathing, but doing lots of theater

Duncan Sheik had one very big hit a bunch of years ago. He never really went away, though – his musical, ‘Spring Awakening’, is moving to Broadway, and now he’s doing a solo appearance as part of the NYMF. Read all about it here, and don’t forget to breathe.

Les Freres Corbusier want to scare the religion into ya

Les Freres is the company that brought us A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant (you can now buy the cast album for that show if you want it), as well as the more recent Heddatron. This next one features neither L. Ron Hubbard (nor Tom Cruise or even the image of the Golden Child). It is, however, a Halloween show, and that should be good for some yuks, coming from this troupe.
Their website says it will scare the Jesus into you. Apparently Every Halloween, Evangelical churches across America stage haunted houses that replace the traditional ghosts and ghouls with real depictions of evil: high school cheerleaders getting abortions, gay men dying of AIDS, and children reading Harry Potter. Now, for the first time ever, this cultural phenomenon comes to New York City- with the Church’s own script fully intact.. Children reading Harry Potter?!?!?!? Heavens to Betsy, lock up your daughters!

This Halloween, come celebrate like the true believers…
